Explore a Shipwreck!

We are thrilled to welcome Deborah Marx, marine archaeologist from the
Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary as our first Scientist Saturday presenter.

Dive In: Explore the Shipwrecks of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary

Saturday October 5, 2013, 10am
$5/child members, $10/child nonmembers
All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Come in and talk to maritime archaeologists from the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, New England’s only National Marine Sanctuary.  Rich with maritime history, this underwater museum located just off our shores is home to hundreds of historic shipwrecks, from schooners to fishing vessels. Sanctuary archaeologists will be on hand to show visitors the types of equipment used to located and document historic shipwrecks like the steamship Portland, lost with all hands in 1898.  A mock shipwreck will also be set up on land to allow people of all ages to try the techniques archaeologists use to document a sunken vessel.

Welcome to Scientist Saturdays!

Calling all young scientists!
Welcome to Scientist Saturdays, a new program of the Hull Lifesaving Museum.
We are so excited to be starting our fall series of Scientist Saturdays.  Kids and their families are invited to join us to meet scientists working in the marine fields, such as underwater archaeology, robotics, environmental planning and more.

Kids, you will have a chance to learn about projects the scientists are working on, ask questions, and try some hands-on activities.

On this site, we will be posting information about our Scientist Saturday sessions, follow up activities, cool links, and Question & Answer sessions.

Do you have a question about marine science?  Let us know and we will ask our visiting scientists.  Please post your question as a comment below.  Thank you!
